Rain is a good thing, I get that, except sometimes when it’s a bad thing.

A bad thing about rain is when too much comes in a short period of time it saturates the ground and the worms who thought this was gonna be another drought year are now gasping for air because even they don’t want to be that wet and they invade my back porch.

I may be stretching your imagination when I say invade because there are probably only two or three at a time that come climbing up over the edge and onto the porch.

The worms make their way across the vast wasteland of bricks, past the front of the lawn chair where I sit and on towards the sliding glass door.   In the morning there lies stiff and dry and in quiet desperation the proof of the many unfinished journeys across the patio.

After dinner I was sharing my concern about this worm invasion with Scout.

You know how when it rains and the worms come up on the porch and while I’m not affraid of the worms I’m a little creeped out by them.

Um, yeah, why?

Sometimes the worms seem to be headed straight for me like they are looking for a drier, warmer place.   So last night I was sitting out there and I tucked my feet up on that V-part of the chair to keep them off the ground so the worms wouldn’t crawl on my feet.

Because you’re too slow to get away from the worms?
