she’s not gated

decipherment by linlah, August 13, 2009

I have a freind who has a daughter who has a friend who has a horse and access to many horses and stables and barns and pastures filled with green grass and horses.   Knowing all this  I may have had this conversation late one night a couple of weeks ago with SAM’s mother:

“Hey will you let SAM know that if Little Bell wants pictures of her new horse I’d muck stalls or feed or whatever just to go smell the horses”.

This late night question required weeks of planning to put into action, ok actually there wasn’t so much planning as there was a rushed phone call late on Tuesday night saying:

“Little Bell and I just realized we have to go back to work on Thursday are you available tomorrow at 7am”?

So I checked my day planner and wonder of all wonders I was free and I could go see horses and smell horses and maybe ride a horse and I didn’t care that I had to set my alarm clock that night for a time it had not gone off at in a long while.

Horses.  I love horses.  I had a horse but not a horse anything like Little Bell’s new horse.  I knew when she posted the photo on FB and stated the horse was 17 hands that this was a big horse…really big, like my hedge big.  But nothing prepares you for how big.

There are not too many things I enjoy more than having my camera, standing in a pasture, with the morning sun coming over a barn and a horse working out the morning wiggles.

And yes SAM and Little Bell I know  – gaited and gated it’s a play on words.

Ok to start I have to say everytime you write something with me in it I am soo proud! (look right there! shes talkin about me!)And now I have to agree there is nothing better in the world than those wonderful smells and sounds of the barn. And I’m so glad I have Little Bell for all the great times and experiences we have shared and the chance to share one with you and even be lucky enough to have you photograph it was great!! We WILL do it again and soon!

  2. Little Bell says:

You made my big beast looke like miss twinkle toes. next time she tries to tell me she cant go fast because she is a draft horse, I will just pull out the picture of her flying through the air and remind her that if she can get all four feet off the ground at once, then she can most certanily trot down the trail without to much fuss. Thank you for the pictures and anytime you want to see smell or ride a horse again you are more than welcome to come see smell or ride any of mine !

I love horses too, but they also scare me a little bit. I have been on more than one horse when they freak out…that’s not so much fun!

I so wanted to go and was not able to. I am glad that SAM was able to go and enjoy with you. The pictures made me feel as if I did not miss the trip at all. I was able to smell, see and hear all of the sounds that ring through the barn and riding area. Those sounds and smells are unique unto themselves and make a heart clammer and glad to be beating. Thanks for the trip via photos.

SAM – Thanks for letting me include myself it was fun.

Little Bell – Blackmail photos are always good to have and thank you too for the opportunity. I will have to take you up on the offer.

Candice – It never ceases to amaze me which photos people are drawn to – photos are like art and they touch people in different ways.

Kate – That’s unfortunate about the bad experiences but you know what they say – when you get bucked off you gotta get back on.

lilhankjr – I did get to ride and let me just say, again, that is a BIG horse.

    NL – You were miseed.
