the one where i force you to visit other pages

decipherment by linlah, November 6, 2009

Do you comment back on the comments you receive?   I do and sometimes I’m not very clever in those moments.   So I ask you, my dear commentors, would you be offended if I just commented on your blog and not responded to your comment on my blog?

Also, I’m thinking about limiting my post views to “one” so that when you visit you get the recent post but nothing else and would have to click to see old posts or I could change my template to “magazine” style and then force you to click to other posts thereby upping my numbers.

And last but not least for the inept people in your life

“I don’t know let’s Google it”

is a link for those of you who have already or may in the future have a conversation where Google is your best defense.

But let me know about the other stuff…cause I’m here for me.

  1. Honesytly Linlah, with so many blogs to read and comment on, it’s hard to get back for the response to the original comment. I would not be crushed if you did not reply (unless, of course, I said something so pithy that you could not help but reply. Not that that happens, but a girl can dream)

I tend to go back and check the previous entry to see if my comment was given a reply, but commenting on that person’s blog is fine too!

I agree with Candice. I sometimes go back to look, but most of my comments are just to let the blogger know that I’ve read (and enjoyed) what they wrote.

I aspire to the likes of bschooled @ Just Making Convo and Alan Truitt @ Sick Days (although for the past two months he has not been blogging)and Don @ Crabby Old Fart because these bloggers reply to each and every comment. Their comments are not merely a word or two, they are masterpieces. One thing about Blogger vs. Wordpress is that Blogger does not have a comment format that allows you to reply to each comment individually. That is a major setback IMO vs. Wordpress. I would love to reply to each comment directly. But, to answer your question, I would not be offended if you didn’t reply to my comments, because I know you are reading them all. We wouldn’t be blogging if we didn’t read the comments, would we?

You’re right Yorks it is all about the comments. I guess I’m looking for a way to stay connected to the readers but sometimes trying to think of a proper reply makes my head hurt.

    yorksnbeans, you are very wise.

  6. I’m the same way. i comment on others blogs, but not on my own. so thats what i would prefer :)

  7. Early on when I started blogging I had the Comment Conundrum thing and asked a semi-pro blogger and she advised to reply to each and every comment but I started to feel overbearing with that. Too eager? Like, if I post and you comment and I reply to your comment do you need to comment on my reply to your comment? Then I just want to shoot myself. I love getting comments for the connection of it all and I love leaving comments to acknowledge what someone’s written or thank them or just say “I’m here and am reading your words” but as evidenced by this post here I obviously have a large commentary regarding comments. Thank you corn-bean!

      EXACTLY!!!

I follow a lot of blogs, but I do sometimes check back to see if I got a comment to my comment. I’m thinking of replying to comments via email like some people do.

Joanie I have one blog I read who comments back in emials and that seems more personal but I felt funny responding back. Now I sometimes send emails to regular commentors if I have something to say that I don’t think should be in comments.
